Every New Moon comes with a clean slate. Yesterday, I shared something on IG with the invitation to drop into your womb, the seat of your subconsciousness, and play with the shadow of what Pisces’ moon cycle has brought to your table. I invite you to carve out some time for a Moon Bath and sit in silence to ask yourself these questions:
What are the 3 words that lead your day-to-day these past few weeks?
Since I’ve just asked you an intimate question I will tell you which words lead mine: overwhelm, depth and simplicity. Overwhelm covered the first portion, depth reminded me of my deepest desire and simplicity was the answer to work through overwhelm.
What are the 3 things that you want to take with you into the next cycle?
Mine are Simplicity, and to thrive with Aries’ fire I want to add Bravery and Decisiveness.
Your Moon Bath
It’s specifically prepared for Yoni
I wrote about Uttara Vasti before, the Ayurvedic ritual designed to nurture and cleanse your Womb physically, emotionally and spiritually. It starts every Moon Cycle on the second evening after New Moon and is repeated twice on a convenient evening under the Waxing Moon. You essentially prepare a herbal bath in which you either just soak your bits, or you pour the decoction into your bathtub, to be mixed with your usual (filtered) bath water for a luscious hip bath. Although I personally love the hip bath option, I would suggest going for a simple Yoni Soak this month, so that it combines well with the journal practice.
The Basic Recipe
2 cups water
1 teaspoon Triphala powder
1 tablespoon Aloe Vera Gel
How to: bring water to a boil in a double boiler. Add Triphala powder, then cover and allow to simmer for approximately three minutes. Remove the container from heat and allow the solution to steep for 15 minutes. Strain through a fine sieve, retaining the sediment. Pour the aloe vera gel into the solution, then pour the solution into the sitz bath.
Yoni Soak for Your Dosha
Although this basic recipe is a gentle yet powerful tool to support Apana Vayu (the energy human beings work with to let go of things, for a physical or emotional cleanse… Think: bowel movements, menstruation, crying, wardrobe clear-out), your needs may vary based on how you’re feeling in your body this moon. Here are three variations, designed to soothe your Yoni’s Dosha (energetic imbalance):
Vata
Dryness, painful periods, cramping, painful intercourse
Add a thumb-size peeled and cubed Lotus Root to the container. Bring it to a boil in 2.5 cups of water. Then, lower the fire to low heat, and let it simmer for 20-30 minutes. A part of the water will dissolve. Then, strain the water and add 1 tsp Triphala to the Lotus Infused water. You may also add a handful of Calendula flowers (dried). Allow it to steep for 40 minutes in a thermos. Then, pour the solution into a sitz bath and your ritual can begin.
Pitta
Bacterial Vaginosis, burning, redness, heavy bleeding or spotting in between periods, fishy odour, yellowish discharge. Pitta is the Dosha of this Moon, which suggests an inclination to loose stools and bleeding.
Besides Triphala, you can add 1tsp of Licorice Powder and 1tsp of Shatavari. Mix thoroughly and allow it to steep for 15 minutes. Pour the concoction into your sitz bath and get ready for your ritual.
Kapha
Lots of mucous, pale periods, feeling heavy or drowsy or lethargic, and recurring yeast infections. Kapha is the Dosha of this season. So a fair share of these symptoms is to be expected!
Stick with the base recipe 🌹
The Ritual
Prepare your Herbal Yoni Bath. Whilst you’re at it, I invite you to get in the right zone by trying one of these playlists: these Yin sounds, these sounds to activate the Solar Plexus (Aries’ Chakra) or these Bhakti Songs for Goddess Durga (the goddess vibe for Aries). Now, prepare your Moon Bath Sanctuary. Dim the lights, use candles, relaxing aroma’s like Rose, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang or Neroli and Sandalwood. Or burn some Sage. Place the sitz bath over the toilet seat and pour the herbalised liquid into it. Keep some hot and cold water near you to adapt the temperature if needed.
Now close your eyes and witness your breathing. When you have connected with your breath, envision Red Coral at the base of your spine. It shines bright, and with every exhale, the red, shimmery light travels up your spine, out through your nostrils and into the space around you. Repeat 18 of these red coral breaths. Feel how it activates each and every vertebra, bringing you strength, radiance and clarity.
When you have finished your rounds of red coral breathing, it’s time to journal. First, release any thoughts that came to you during your breathing meditation. Then, jot down those two questions that I opened this newsletter with:
What are the 3 words that lead your day-to-day these past few weeks?
What are the 3 things that you want to take with you into the next cycle?
Closing-off
To come out of your ritual, pop under the shower to cleanse your bottom of any herbal remains. Pat dry with a towel and pull your skin with some soft sesame oil. Treat yourself to wearing comfortable garments and take the night off. If you can, remain in dimmed light.
I encourage you to find images that embody those three words for you. Use these pictures as your backdrop, and add them as an attachment to e-mails you send to yourself as a gentle reminder of your commitment to these three words. Or, print them and stick them somewhere you will see them.
Have a wonderful Waxing Moon 💖
