Why Conscious Conceiving starts 3 months before you actually start trying
And the first step to get started with Ayurveda
Since Friday is the day of Venus, and thus governs self care, self love, art, romantic relationships and family building, I’d like to dedicate this moment to sharing some insights on the Art of Consciously Conceiving with Ayurveda.
What is the difference between TTC and Consciously Conceiving?
*Consciously Conceiving tends to be nurturing, inspiring and playful*
Where Trying To Conceive refers to the active state of - it’s pretty straight forward - trying to fertilise your egg during the fertile window (as well as narrowing down when that window is), Ayurveda likes to focus on the health journey of that egg prior to its release into the fallopian tubes. That’s right, Ayurveda’s protocol starts 90 days before you even want to start trying. Within that time frame, the (future) Mother can immerse into nurturing herself and bond with her Womb by observing her cycle. Not only is a woman’s period perceived to be a monthly mirror into their body’s wellbeing (i.e.: symptoms like heavy cramping and chills may mean you’ve lived too much in your head, or have been subject to anxiety or other things that have interrupted healthy breathing… A lack of breaks in your work schedule is a good example) — a healthy lifestyle with lots of time to connect and reflect also positively impacts the maturation of your ovarian eggs. I illustrated the full journey of your *golden* egg below for you.
Day 120-90: Ayurvedic Body Reset
With Ayurveda, a couple would traditionally initiate their journey to conceiving with an immersion into detoxification and rejuvenation. This series of treatments is called Panchakarma. A traditional course would be well planned and take 30 days (so you would do this 120 days prior to conceiving). Pancha means 5 in Sanskrit and refers to the 5 therapeutic actions that these series bring about. The idea is that once all built up toxins and stagnation are removed from your body (which is Panchakarma’s soul purpose), healthy adaptions to your current lifestyle will have a much higher impact on your body. Your Mind, Womb and Ovaries will feel renewed, nurtured and inspired 🧡
This all sounds amazing. “But what if we can’t take time out from work to book a rejuvenating retreat in Kerala?” I hear you. Retreating like that is a luxury. And although I do believe your body deserves this (especially for what’s to come!)… It’s absolutely not the only way to tap into the benefits of Panchakarma and consciously conceiving.
I’ve got a few delicious therapeutic idea’s that are inspired by the full series, but DIY and done-from-home friendly. Instead of 30 days, you only need 10 days of detoxification and rejuvenation.
The money you’ll be saving can be invested in your baby’s fund. Or a part of it can go to transforming (a room in) your house into a retreat sanctuary!
Instruction #1: Kichari
Let’s start with the gut
Like with Panchakarma, Kichari’s goal is to offer your body a very simple diet for a few days on well timed intervals. That way, the body finally gets to “clean up” built up toxins. It also boosts your Digestive Fire, with an after effect that lasts for weeks. A gentle yoga practice of moon salutations will help you move through stagnation, whilst a daily Self Massage (more on this in another e-mail) externally nurtures your body, promotes circulation and tells your nervous system to calm the f* down. I have learned, written, practiced, recommended and talked about Kichari for about 5 years now. I used to call it “The Only Realistic Detox”. Especially when my gut seemed to have more in common with a painful balloon than a powerhouse I came back to Kichari about every 6 weeks. It would induce feelings of peace, clarity, self love and would left me grounded. The perfect place to be before your egg starts her journey into human manifestation! Plus, you’ll be toxin free before pregnancy and blessed with a strong digestive fire — the corner stone of good health.
To support my clients who are getting ready to conceive I designed this Base Recipe + Guidelines. Honestly, I call it a base recipe but it gets you pretty far. The protocol lives here, so please feel free to duplicate, star or screenshot!
