In KUNDALINI Yoga, Hair is believed to be our first and most accessible tool to draw in positive energy before it is descended to our main energy channels in the spine. Taking this for Word, we can conclude Hair is quite a magical Head Piece. And guess what? All natural baby.
That's if... Your hair is healthy.
Right, there's a few things we need to understand about our HAIR CONDITION. Growth of (+ on and within) our body is governed by the element Fire. Heat is responsible for the transformation of what we’ve been feeding ourselves with (including H20) into our new lay-out. If we apply this rule to our hair, we could assume that the fall of our manes reveal an excess of the Fire Element in our body.
PITTA (sanskrit for Fire imbalance) resides in the Liver, and flows through our blood vessels to heat our body. Essential yet oh-so acid if it’s in overflow. Besides hair loss, an excess of Pitta shows through loose stools, red eyes, acne, inflamed muscles and any irritation in both our body and feelings. Pitta related emotions are serious competition, jealousy and anger. Conditions that push our Pitta levels to the max are a hot summer, cardio, skipping meals as well as heating foods and drinks like cayenne pepper, tomatoes, alcohol & espresso, and over hours at work.
Pitta stands for TRANSFORMATION, and is driven by… Drive. And so it doesn’t take us by surprise to find out that Pitta - whilst feeling so productive - seems to drive us further away from our desires and goals. Why? Well, it pushes us out of alignment. Any thing away from the fine line of balance is either too much or too less and takes us to a place where we’ve lost the ground underneath our feet. And if we’re no longer connected to our roots, it’s hard to remember why we started all this. Isn’t it?
Slow down, Grow More (hair)
So… Hair. Curing it from a mind-body perspective takes some one-pointed concentration, for example through a Pitta-Balancing Meditation. It'll systematically change the structure of your brain, and thoroughly cure your manes from the inside-out. Which saves you an x amount of $$$ on products and another x amount of time. However, if this is one of those busy boss weeks, these supplements are quite meditative too - yet ready to order. And if you feel creative? Just follow the HERBAL RECIPE below!
• • • SACRED INGREDIENT: CLARY SAGE • • •
HEALING POWERS> Clary Sage is kind ‘a sweet, and therefore soothes the astringent and sour-ish qualities of Pitta. It is anti-inflammatory, reduces PMS and menopausal symptoms and boosts your hair growth. Whoah! I mean, Rawrrr.
• • • LIONESS HAIR RECIPE • • •
INGREDIENTS> 1 cup filtered water, 2 tablespoons Castor Oil, 2 tablespoons Pink Himalayan Sea Salt, 1 table spoon aloe vera (gel), 4 teaspoons coconut sugar, 6 drops Californian Clary Sage, 2 drops Geranium Oil, 1 drop Rosemary Oil.
HOW TO USE> Add the water, the Himalayan Sea Salt and the Coconut Sugar to a sauce pan and bring to simmer. Mindfully stir the water with a wooden spoon, until all the solid materials have dissolved and the mixture is fluid again. Let it cool until lukewarm. Add the essential oils and leave it ‘till your brew is chilled. Now add the aloe vera, and use a blender or quick-hands (great exercise) until it’s become 1 smooth unit.
TIP> Fancy extra vibration? Charge the filtered water overnight with your favourite crystal or gemstone. I’d suggest Aquamarine, for this gem was believed to be the treasure of Mermaids, and symbolises the sweet, tranquil and nourishing qualities of the Water Element.
