If I am lucky enough to have you in my community for a while, you may already know that when I was pregnant with my first baby, I was not afraid at all for the birthing journey. All my anxiety was focused on one question:
“Will I be able to breastfeed?”
The question kept popping up in my mind, for days and months after my breasts went rock hard from the volumes of milk coming in.

As the weeks with my newborn passed, I found myself carefully shifting my breastfeeding goal one month at a time. I knew in my heart that ideally, I would breastfeed until my baby’s second birthday and beyond. I would day-dream of tandem nursing, and was curious about how the sensation, the efficiency of my child’s suckling, the length of each feed, and my little one’s feeding posture (as well as mine! Would he be feeding without much of my support? I once saw a mamma in trikonasana while her toddler had a quick milk fix) would change over time.
Sadly, the voice of fear was usually much louder than the volumes my daydreams were speaking to me. In a dramatically reduced summary, my mind would sail the thoughts below:
